There is a new 9 hole course going in at Greenwood Meadows Park in Warren, NJ. Located across the street from the Pingry School this course is scheduled to open April 8th. I'll post if the course is playable earlier.
It is a short course in a small park that has a few elevation changes. The targets are DISCatchers.
Disc Golf Slamming Baskets with a Buddy!
Yeah! I'll be there Wednesday April 8th after work! Matt your contributions to disc golf in Somerset County are amazing. Without you there would not be any disc golf in Somerset County. Thank you!
Just finished up playing 5 rounds of the new course, with Bob, Kit, Hope and Karl.
To keep it interesting we played like Karl's idea of FORB.
1st round backhand: I shot -3 2nd round forehand: I shot -2 3rd round overhead: I shot +1 4th round rollers: I shot -1 5th round backhand: I shot -8
Was getting in to the groove of the new course by the last round!
A quick review of the 9 holes: Hole 1 plays along between the softball field and the road, around 150 feet. Hole 2 is perpindicular playing around the far edge of the field and a little longer, maybe 170. Hole 3 has trees along the left hand edge and is also around 150 feet. Hole 4 has a nice pin position with a slope dropping off behind it towards the road which gives a nice visual as you are putting. Hole 5 plays down a slope and back up again (which was pretty challenging for the roller round!) Hole 6 has trees along the right edge and the road OB along the left so requires some accuracy. Hole 7 is the longest on the course, probably 250 but feels more like 300 feet as it is up a steep incline. Hole 8 plays from the top of the hill you've just walked up and is a nice downhill shot, probably 220 feet or so. The last hole, Hole 9 plays to a pin protected by a couple of large trees, and on the side of a slope. All in all, a good use of a tight playing area and good practice.
Bob played the entire round with his putter, while I alternated between my Cobra, putter and driver for the long toss. Kit had some nice flicks with a few likely looking ace runs.
A good day's golf would be to play all 3 courses that are within 5 miles of each other, starting with Chimney Rock, then Greenwood, then Harry Dunham.
