Everyone has a differant take on the local OBs and Tee areas for each hole.

While it's lots of fun to make up new situational boundaries and mandos and such. It can lead to plenty of confusion when it comes time to have events.

Recently at the ice bowl, Doot(the TD) declared all paths and beyond OB. (Save certain exeptions in the program).

We have played with variations of this and I think it should be spelled out somewhere.

For example, the path beyond basket 16 is never OB unless an event director specificly says so.

This is a local rule that has been in place for a long time. It's been debated plenty. I'll debate it some more if some one wants, but it is not OB generally.

Another example is curbs are not "IN".
You do not play from where you struck a curb. Unless you did so as you left Inbounds.

I would like to make a page of these rules for the site. Please chime in with the ones you are familiar with and we can compile this info together.
Thanks

The tournament OBs went a little far. I just don't like to see my scorecard littered with circles. I prefer that all ROADS and Parking Lots are OB, but all paths [like the path behind sixteen and seventeen] are not OB. With regard to 18, I like the fact that you can go over the road, and hit in bounds again on the island.

Other than the roadways/parking areas, I believe that the only other OBs are on 10 [the water] and the pond holes [water again.]

As was demonstrated by Big Dave at the Buzzy's ice bowl, the door to Doots Bimmer is definately OB, but makes a nice sickening thud when hit.

Not that I feel the need to justify myself, but let me explain my philosophy in making all paths and beyond OB.

Since we were playing half A-tees and half B-tees, each round, I felt the need to try to make the course more challenging and strategic. Of course unlucky kicks off the trees are bound to happen, and might explain Mel's distaste of the OBs. It might also be that Mel's just a crappy player and couldn't keep his disc in bounds (just kidding Mel..well, not really..;-) My point is that the course is relatively easy to begin with, and one of the rounds was a doubles round, making scores even lower..The OBs were plentiful to try to increase the scoring spread, reward risky shots, penalize poor shots, and (in theory) keep the course safer by penalizing players who throw into other fairways.

The OBs did lead to confusion on occasion though, and that was an oversight on my end for not being clear enough. I do think it's worth it though..look at hole 16.

For anyone putting from short of the basket, blowing past by 10 feet adds a stroke. If you're 20 feet out do you layup and take your three or go for the deuce putt?

How about on hole 17 from the A-tee..there's a wide hyzer gap (assuming RHBH) near 16's basket where shots often fly past the path and hyzer or skip back in bounds. I parked the hole using this route but have also gone OB many times..again a risk/reward shot.

Of course bad kicks are unfortunate, but I think having all paths and beyond OB when playing from the shorts or B-tees adds more to the course than hurts the course..

my two cents..

ps: i welcome further discussion on this topic..
